She may be scupulous. Like, maybe she feels like she should tell you she is done
for the day so you don't think she is stealing time.

Also, I totally understand thinking you are basically done and not realizing you still have a lot to do.

Finally, talking to yourself is super helpful. I know it is not good for your social standing, but if I need to get through anything complicated, it is a valuable tool in the toolbox.

One question: can you handle the double goodbye in some less-awkward way? Sometimes the most socially skilled people can actually smooth out the rough edges that others create. Maybe there is some variant goodbye phrase you can coin. Like, "goodbye for real this time," or "goodbye again," etc. I mean, if you moved to a country where it was customary to give two goodbyes, you would just learn the script and follow it with confidence. It wouldn't be crazy just to have a double goodbye script that you use just with this one employee. Saying an extra goodbye is just part of your job that you have to do to get the best out of your employees.
