Browsing through McDonalds' open positions in Hawaii, the McDonalds in Mililani
is hiring crew members for 15.25. Wahiawa is hiring for $16.50. Laie is hiring for $14.00.

It looks like most McDonalds are hiring crew members for rates above minimum wage.

McDonalds in Boise are advertising crew member positions 'from $15 per hour'. So they are hiring way above minimum wage and in line with what crew members in Hawaii make--regardless of minimum wage.

Based on this simple research, it does seem like Idaho's minimum wage is way out of touch with what the economics of the area would dictate while Hawaii is somewhat on par.

So I'm guessing that the difference in price is probably mostly related to costs of doing business unrelated to wages--such as real estate and shipping. Hawaii also probably has higher utility costs and there are probably regulatory costs as well that exceed Idaho. Much of that is to be expected on a small island, and some of it is probably due to overregulation.
