As your kids get older, you'll rarely be all together at once. Just go.
I'm going to be on sabbatical in Spain most likely while my son stays home to graduate from high school and play his last year of sports. His choice. We thought about delaying a year, but then he'd be on a mission. You just can't win and have to just make your choice and trust there will be other opportunities for the child in the future.
