Jake had Austin and Connor on his podcast this morning to discuss Austin’s
commitment. Connor hasn’t been shy to point out how poorly the O line room was handled under the previous coach. But the Pay brothers outright said Austin ruled out BYU under the previous coach. Once Woods came in, Austin gave BYU another look and Woods won him over. Even with the public drama with the local recruit that didn’t get tickets for his family and subsequently went to Utah, I don’t think we knew just had badly things had devolved in that room.
When we brought in Woods, I was cautiously optimistic but nervous because most analysts were saying it was a “meh” or “meh+” type hire. Now, after bringing in two 4 star linemen and turning Etienne and Keim into draftable prospects, Woods is looking like an A+ hire.
