We make the playoff and lose, that’s not that impressive. Just how we dissed them for losing two Rose Bowls.
So I did some research tonight. If, and it’s a big IF because there’s a lot of football left, BYU makes the playoff, we will likely either have to go undefeated or only sustain one loss.
That is way more impressive than both their Rose Bowl seasons. Let’s recap both those seasons:
2021:
They lose to us, San Diego State, Oregon State, and third string Ohio State in the Rose Bowl. We went 5-0 against the Pac 12 that year (including Utah), so forgive us for not thinking that was an overly impressive schedule.
2022:
They lost at the Swamp to a dominant 6-7 Florida team, at UCLA, and at Oregon. They did beat USC in the conference championship game which looked okay, then USC lost to Tulane in their bowl game before Utah got boat raced by Penn State in the Rose Bowl.
To recap, in both seasons, they lost four games. In order for us to qualify for the playoff, we either have to be perfect, or only sustain one loss, and if we lose in the playoff, that will only be our second loss of the season.
It’s not even comparable. What BYU is doing is much more impressive. Let’s see if we can sustain it.
