Maybe venues get kickbacks and that is why they work with the ticket brokers. All these entertainers lament the huge markup from the secondary market. Why can't they take control of the process?
Have some kind of ticket contract that guarantees entrance only to the phone that bought the ticket. The only way to transfer a ticket is to get a refund from the venue and add it back to the pool. If someone bought the ticket for someone else, they have to give contact info at time of purchase to tie the ticket to a device (or within a few minutes of purchase). For faithful fans that buy every year, they get a small number of free transfers. If they no-show too much or transfer too much, they lose the privilege.
If I am BYU, I want to sell only to fans that plan to attend the games as fans. This goes for concerts too. I want to eliminate the secondary market that returns no value to the venue or the entertainer. Sure, no more giving your tickets to your cousin when you can't go. I think it is worth that downside.
