I don't think so. My understanding is to be a "conference" you need 8 members.
Hawaii became a full member a bit ago to bring them to the 8. GCU is just to get 9 for basketball?
If you are a top five ranked conference champion, you're in the playoff. They are still a conference. Just need to be in the top five at the end of the year.
