If there's an exploitable vulnerability, why assume that only one coach (or even one team) identified and exploited that vulnerability.
We're into a weird era; stealing signs was and has always been legal (it's advanced scouting that has been forbidden), and I could see a lot of teams rationalizing it as a grey area to steal helmet comms ("Hey, if my coaches can pick it up on Walkie-Talkie channel 12, it's out there for anyone with a Walkie-Talkie. Where's the wrong in listening in?").
