It was one of the nicest neighborhoods in Queens. It was pretty upscale and people actually had backyards. We didn't work that area too much since it was kind of hard to get to and it was very Catholic. The branch president at the time was a former mafia guy but never got made because he was not Italian. I remember he took us out to a fancy restaurant and kept tipping the waiters $20 every time they came by the table to the point that servers just camped out at our table. He drove an older Cadillac that was such a g-ride. It was the first time I ever talked on a cell phone from a car in which the phone was hooked up to the car speakers... I was blown away. My first area was Park Slope and the building was purchased from the longshoreman which were tied with the mafia. We would have Sunday School in a room that was covered in stained wood which was the old bosses office. The talk around Gotti just brought back these memories.
