That movie Marley & Me hit a button watching it and being reminded of dogs I
have lost. The last one was one of the most beloved. It was a chocolate lab that almost seemed human. You could tell her to go get a sock in a bedroom downstairs and she'd know exactly what you said and go and do it. It was sooooo hard when she got 12 and became very debilitated that she couldn't walk and she was far too heavy to carry out to the yard a few times a day to go to the bathroom. We finally decided we'd have to put her down. We put her in the wagon and the whole family took her through the neighborhood letting her see everyone one last time. We had a flower bed in the front of our yard. We completely dug it out and we had a vet friend that came over and put her down after we had all said our goodbyes and buried her in the front yard and put a fruit tree on top of her grave and called it the Penny apricot tree. That was hard. The tree lasted 5 years and died last year just all of a sudden. I haven't had the heart to pull it out yet.

I've never researched the saying people have attributed to Joseph Smith where he said he planned to have his favorite horse with him in heaven one day, but I believe it. I look forward to seeing a few of our past dogs one day. It will be a glorious reunion.
