Retzlaff reminds me of a upgraded version of Brandon Doman
Doman was best described as a playmaker at QB. He didn't always look like a pure passer in the pocket and frankly was pretty unconventional at times, but he mostly delivered the ball to the right guy.

As this season goes along, I am finally realizing that Jake reminds me of an upgraded version of Doman. His mobility, his use of the speed option, and even his movement in the pocket resemble a lot of what Brandon did on the field. And they both play a style that can make fans say "No, no, no... Yes!" But mostly they have those intangibles and leadership skills that the team has confidence in them to lead them when they absolutely need a score. Brandon did it against Utah twice, UNLV, and New Mexico. Jake has already lead two critical drives against SMU & Oklahoma State.

Now Jake has the bigger arm and is more dynamic in the passing game while Brandon as a former option QB did a lot more with his legs, but both of them could run and pass effectively. And the weapons are different. In 2001 Brandon basically relied on Luke, Reno & Jolley while Jake has a more dynamic core of WRs in 2024. So the offenses look quite a bit different but with the emergence in the running game we've seen the last few weeks the offenses are both well balanced.

Oh and they have one more thing in common... 8-0 BABY!
