their opportunity comes to win a championship whether it’s its earlier or later than expected. Opportunities don’t always come on the schedule a team is planning for and reaching it earlier than expected isn’t a guarantee of even greater success than what was originally planned for.

Just a few examples in recent years to illustrate this…. 2016 Chicago Cubs were supposed to put together a good squad that year but really it was lining up to be chasing a title in the few years after. Instead they make the World Series ahead of schedule in 2016 and win it, then don’t get near the WS the following years. In the NFL, the Bengals looked to be putting together a good team but likely were 2-3 years out from really challenging the Chiefs, Buffalo, etc. for the AFC title. But, they end up shocking everyone earlier than expected and beating the Chiefs to go to the SB. They didn’t win the SB, but things looked bright for them for future years according to their original plan. Instead, they faded and haven’t made it back since.

You have to win when you have the chance because even if the development schedule says you should be better in a year or two, it’s not guaranteed and you may have just missed your chance for a title.

BYU may not have had these expectations to start the year, but now that the opportunity has presented itself, they need to take advantage of it and win. Don’t settle for less this year.
