Our plane landed at LAX at 5:30am from Japan. Along with many other planes.

BUT, LAX passport control doesn't open until 6:00am. So they made ALL of us sit on the plans until 6:00. So then, at 6:00am you have at least 6 and maybe even as many as 10 planes worth of people all hitting passport control at the same time. MADHOUSE!!

Once we, and 1000s of similarly situated travelers, got through passport, then everyone with a domestic connection were funneled to the domestic Re-Inspection to get into the domestic side. SAME huge surge problem.

Then we had to get on a bus to get from the domestic side of the international terminal to get to the domestic terminal our flight was from.

Over 3 hours from touchdown to getting to our next gate. HORRIBLE!!!

(if you have an international airport with flights coming from all over the world and LANDING at all times of the day and night, then you HAVE to have Passport Control and TSA running 24 hours a day!!
