It's clear the media in Utah has been largely pro-Utah for a number of years...
Frankly, that's not surprising when Utah got invited to the P12 while BYU was languishing in Indy and the WCC. That was a stretch of more than a decade. It will take some time to change some of those perceptions, but I believe they will change, and more quickly than many expect.

For one year BYU and Utah were both P5 schools but in different conferences. Utah (and the majority of the media pundits) still felt that they were a significant step above BYU because of their perception that the P12 was a much better conference than the B12. In fact, Utah and their media cheerleaders routinely denigrated the B12 conference, especially compared to the P12. In addition, they openly predicted (some guaranteed) that Utah would win the B12 title in a cakewalk, and be a legitimate challenger for the national title.

Now, 2/3 through Utah's inaugural B12 season, the Utes have a record of 4-4 and sit near the bottom of the league standings, while BYU is 8-0 and sitting atop the league standings. No one would have predicted that. People are taking notice. Opinions are changing. Things are different when BYU and Utah are on a level playing field. There is no similarity between the current trajectories of BYU and Utah. That decade of dominance that Ute fans felt was their right and would last forever now, is quickly becoming a distant memory.

Over the next few years, we'll see more and more blue and less red as people realize it's more fun and more satisfying to be a BYU fan.
