Question about “taking the foot off the gas” specifically regarding playing
subs.

I got into it yesterday with a poster who said he thought it was essentially stupid to play backups that much with a lead. You all know how much the board loathes the other team scoring even in garbage time when BYU has a big lead, so I don’t have to tell you that.

But as far as playing the subs… they have to play sometime, right? Like the coaches are planning on theoretically coaching those guys for a few years and want to get them game reps?

Also if the subs make mistakes like they did yesterday, isn’t that a sign of BYU still lacking depth?

I guess my questions are: aren’t there plenty of reasons to play backups in the 4th quarter with a 24 point lead, and did they really play the back ups “too much” or are the backups just not as good as we hope they’d be?
