Part of it did seem reminiscent of the Lotus Notes team explaining away the complaints about their horrendous UI by

insisting that Lotus Notes was not just an email system and was supposed to be so much more (even though everybody still just used it for email)

We use both, but teams is mostly just used for video conferencing. Occasionally I will reach out to somebody on slack

Bingo. What's funny is I think Slack's search is absolutely trash. Going back to email isn't the answer either.
