but my MIL and all of their kids went to BYU. He was more of an Utah fan until he had Taysom and other BYU players work at his firm, and now he’s a big booster and supports BYU more than Utah. However, he still cheers for Utah and whenever BYU and Utah plays he cheers for the team that has the most to gain.

If BYU were having a crappy season but Utah was a potential playoff team, he’d want Utah to win. I think there are a good amount out there in a similar boat with their fandom and maybe just cheered for Utah for the last decade because they’ve been more fun to cheer for, objectively speaking.
