Right now the west stands has the advantage of being out of the sun (and not having to look into it) during afternoon games, so some fans likely prefer the west side. Other fans may like being behind the team and would prefer the east side (or at least value the east side more than they would if it were the opponent's side). Perhaps the overall revenue gained from what you can charge is greater when you split up these two desirable features rather than have them both for the west stands tickets.
