you come out of college and get peanuts. You have to keep moving jobs and companies to get paid. Once you're at a Sr. Level the pay jumps are not as significant and you're in a better place in terms of salary so the moves slow down.

From my experience at least. Anecdotal but it matches what my friends have done as well.
