Detmer was not looking special at all his freshman year. He barely beat out Covey to start in 1989 as a sophomore. But then there was magic immediately once the sophomore season started and Ty had a number of starts and PT from the prior season under his belt. Yes, I know, not everyone will turn into a Ty Detmer. My point is that Wilson has shown well, and shown poorly so far. He could turn into an awesome gunslinger in a short period of time. He is just getting his bearings together. And yes, maybe he will never pan out to be something special over his career. There is that possibility too. I am just saying we should not read too much into his future career from how his first handful of starts go. Look at Retzlaff in that catergory.
