at private or out-of-state schools. Sounds like he has an amazing resume and I'm certain that he'll get accepted at most schools he applies to. However, high income white males are not at the top of the scholarship list. One of our sons scored a 34 on the ACT and had straight As and was a 3-year letterman in football (not good enough to play college football though). He applied to a lot of schools, including a number of private schools back east (schools like Middlebury, Hamilton, Tufts, Washington & Lee, etc). He was accepted at almost all of these schools, but none of them offered hardly any financial assistance (and we applied for all available scholarships). It was $50k+ a year at every school. We learned that if we made $75k a year, or less, then our son would basically get a free ride at all of these schools, but we were well above that threshold. The reality is that so many of the scholarships out there are income-based. Once you make over $150k to $200k, all of the schools think you can afford $50k a year.

As some people have stated, best scholarship opportunities will be via state schools and being an out-of-state applicant and hope you qualify for purely academic scholarship unrelated to income. Wouldn't surprise me if your son received half academic scholarship at some state schools, but realize that state school tuition for out-of-state applicants can be quite a bit higher than in-state residents, so you are already starting at a very high tuition level.
