Putting it all in the hands of a committee made of biased TV executives and school representatives to rank the teams is just asking for trouble.

The BCS wasn't perfect but the biggest issue was having no playoff. At least the BCS took a lot of different data points from several polls and computer rankings and put it together in one formula to rank the teams, not perfect but a lot less affected by bias (toward the blue bloods).
