Just leading in the second half of games can have a negative effect on yards per play depending on a coach’s strategy.
It can be tough to just accept any particular stat as definitive given different circumstances.

One way to look at it is yards available, and that might be better for a team like theirs or ours whose defense gives them short fields.

ISU’s offense seems to have shown they can chew up the yards available to them when they get the ball. #1 in the Big 12 there.
