For many 1-loss teams, winning out means the teams ahead of them lose.
That being said, looking at the five 1-loss teams in the conference (Kansas St., Arizona St., Cincinnati, Colorado, West Virginia), all of them play one of the three undefeated teams in the conference, but none of them play 2-3 of them - meaning that if they win out they would in fact need one of the other undefeated teams to drop a game somewhere to get to the conference championship game.

Of course, I would still stand by the claim that any team with 1-loss is still in contention and if they win out have a good chance to be playing in that game - because I think it's highly unlikely to have 2 undefeated teams in the conference by the end of the regular season. But I would also claim that it's likely we have more than 2 teams with 0-1 losses (and most certainly will have more than two teams with 2 or fewer losses), so a team with a loss may still be reliant on favorable tiebreakers in order to get into the game. There's too many potential scenarios to play out right now to even consider what those tiebreakers could end up being, but as the season progresses it'll be easier to figure out who is really contenders and who is going to fade down the stretch.
