Some Insight from an Oklahoma State Fan

I've been a BYU fan since I was lad but my allegiance is more with OSU when they play since I am an OSU alum. But I have always said I will root for whoever needs the Win the most. In this case I think it's BYU.

Anyway

  • QB. We are not sure if it's going to be Bowman or Rangel. That depends on who you read. We'll find out Friday night. If it's Rangel - has has some starting experience. It usually takes him a drive or two to get settled into a game though. He's not bad but he's not great either. He does have a sneaky ability to run with the ball. But don't expect too much of that Friday.
  • RB. You know Ollie. You probably know Vailahi too as he is from SLC. Vailahi hasn't shown much. Expect him to get at least a handful of carries though. I've been waiting to see him used in the passing game because he has shown that he could be a weapon there.
  • TE. if the TE is on the field it's a huge advantage to BYU because they are both terrible blockers and they rarely throw to the TE unless they are magically wide open. There are no schemed plays to the TE.
  • OL. Although they are all 5th year Seniors this might be the worst OL at Oklahoma state I have ever seen. They look like they lost weight and strength over the offseason. In fact there are rumers this is actually intentional as they didn't get NIL payments over the summer that the rest of the team got. It's been said that this is the group Gundy was talking to at the start of the season when he publically asked his players to quit asking for money. But, I just don't know if players would purposefully tank their season or NFL hopes out of spite. I think they are just bad.
    • Batty and Co will have no problem pushing them around, getting to backfield, and making stops that the line of scrimmage.
  • WR's. These guys are still really good and capable of getting open and getting catches - Owens, Stribling, Presley, Shettron all would start at most Big XII teams. Even with a struggling OSU team -  the BYU defense should take them seriously.
  • DL. Will get pushed around at will. They are big but Slow (really slow) and not very strong either. The DL is usually able to scheme a sack or two a game but are no concern at all in the run game. Collin Oliver is certainly missed.
  • LB's. Ezeigbo, Roberson, and Daniels. Daniels was a 4 star safety but has been lost since being moved to LB this year. Ozeigbo is a really good pass rusher but not strong at anything else. Roberson is a brand new starter since the injury to Nick Martin. So far he's looked lost and out of position more often than not.
  • DB. This group was supposed to be solid this year but has been a huge dissapointment. Rucker at S is talked about the most because at one point he was leading the country in tackles. He does cleanup a lot back there but he can be beat deep pretty easily. K Black at CB isn't talked about much because he's legit. Whoever he covers won't get much action this game. The rest of the secondary aren't great at what they are supposed to do.

I predict - BYU 34 OSU 13.
