Put in a transfer switch. Run the main things in your house with a simple switch
They aren't that difficult to install either. Eliminates running all the extension cords. You pick 8 breakers you want to get power when main power goes out - HVAC, Water Pump, Kitchen, etc.

When power goes out you simple crank on your generator and it feeds your house the electricity it needs.
