I knew that we had beaten the spread in every game this year but I was curious as to the extent, so I went and looked at the numbers. Here's what they show:

SIU: spread was BYU by 16.5. With a 28 point win, we beat the spread by 11.5
SMU: spread was SMU by 12.5. With a 3 point win, we beat the spread by 15.5
Wyoming: spread was BYU by 9.5. With a 20 point win, we beat the spread by 10.5
K State: spread was KSU by 7.5. With a 29 point win, we beat the spread by 36.5
Baylor: spread was BAY by 3.5. With a 6 point win, we beat the spread by 9.5
Arizona: spread was BYU by 2.5. With a 22 point win, we beat the spread by 19.5

BYU has beaten the spread by an average of 17.16 points through 6 games. That number is a bit skewed by the K State result (where we beat the spread by 36.5!!) and if you take that one out and average the other 5 games, BYU still has beaten the spread by 13.3 points.

This is insane is you ask me and it encapsulates the expectations vs the results this year, and points to why I am buying into the hype. We have not only exceeded expectations in win totals already by crushing the 4.5 total win line, but we have literally exceeded expectations in every single game by an average of two touchdowns. It also doesn't show a huge difference in performance when looking at if BYU is favored or an underdog, they had their best and worst performance vs the spread as an underdog (with K State and Baylor).

This trend would predict that BYU beats Ok State by around 24 points (As of now the line is BYU by 10.5). If we matched our worst result against the spread, we'd win by 20.

Fingers crossed that the team continues to play with a chip on their shoulder and keeps this insane streak alive.
