The numbers from 1 (fantastic), 2 (excellent) to 3 (good, glad I went there) represent my personal rating of how much I enjoyed visiting the place. Everything in Italy is worth a visit, I just enjoyed some places more than others.
Places we visited in order from Sept 19 (first full day there) to October 10 (last full day there):
- Orvieto - (2)
- A bunch of Tuscan hilltop towns (Pienza was the largest) - (2)
- Siena - (2)
- Some more Tuscan hilltop fortress towns - (2)
- Pisa and Lucca - (2)
- Florence - (1)
- La Spezia (gateway to Cinque Terre) - not much in La Spezia but it's a good base to explore Cinque Terre
- Cinque Terre towns (Monterosso, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola, Riomaggiore) - (1)
- Porto Venere - (2)
- Lake Como - (1)
- Milan - (3)
- Venice -(1)
- Bologna -(3)
- Sorrento - (just our base for exploring Almalfi Coast, we did not see much of Sorrento other than port and bus station)
- Island of Capri - (2 - mostly for the boat tour around the island)
- Amalfi Coast towns (Positano, Amalfi, Ravello) - (2)
- Pompeii - (1)
- Rome (including Vatican City) - (1)
My wife would give everything a (1) since she planned the trip; however, she would put Tuscany at the top.
