Indy was better than MWC, but we lost recruits to Utah due to their PAC12
affiliation. Through the 80's and 90's BYU got first pick of recruits and our leftovers went to Utah and Utah St. In the 2000's Utah pulled even with us on recruiting, and in the 2010's Utah pull ahead due to being in the PAC12.
Now that we are on even footing again, BYU and Utah are headed for a return to their rightful places with BYU getting first pick and Utah settling for our leftovers.

I think you're overstating the recruiting disadvantage of indy. It wasn't as good as present but it was better than MWC
