We got to the game about 30 minutes early. We walked in through the northwest gates and it was really crowded. The band was staged there and performing for the crowd, there was only about 10 feet to go around them to get to seats in the west section. We were slowly moving when I guy in a suit asked if we could stop to let someone through. I said sure, and looked over my shoulder to make eye contact with my wife and make sure she was right behind me. As I turned my head forward, I was face to face with Elder Andersen. He stuck his hand out and said, “I sure hope we win today.” I was so shocked, I didn’t know what to say. I just stood there awkwardly shaking his hand. He shook my wife’s hand and then walked toward the elevators.
As I walked to our seats I was just kind of stunned.
I hadn’t had lunch yet, so I walked to a concession stand behind our section and stood in line to get some chicken and fries. There’s a guy right behind me and somehow we start chatting about BYU football. He tells me he comes up from St George for every game and every basketball game. I told him his commitment was pretty amazing and told him my name and asked his. He responded, “My name is John Haddow”.
I did a double take and said, “I’ve heard your name before.” He asked where and I told him from CougarBoard. He kind of rolled his eyes and I said, “People on CougarBoard can be jerks.” We talked for a couple of minutes and then I walked to my seats.
It was a great day and I got to see some other CB friends, but my question is:
Which was the more impressive surprise meeting?
John, if you happen to see this, I hope you don’t mind me mentioning you and it was fun to meet you.
