Texas was already Texas, Gonzaga was pretty well entrenched as Gonzaga, and they are a heck of a brand these days. No title, but two trips to the finals ain’t bad. Very recently, Gonzaga wasn’t a contender for top recruits. They did it mostly via transfers, international players and overachievers. That’s not true anymore.
Bogut went number one, but he wasn’t a very exciting player. Plus Ute basketball has hosed themselves with terrible coaching hires and an even worse fan base.
I’m a believer in the lasting impact a guy like Dybantsa could have for BYU specifically. But I don’t believe he’s worth literally any asking price. The numbers are getting insane. The amount cited might better serve us on the court being dispersed among multiple stars versus one dude we hope is a perennial NBA All-Star.
