How did BYU start recruiting Egor Demin? Is there any truth to this post?

I know BYU was involved with recruiting Hugo Gonzales as well as Demin at one point, but what originated the interest in either one?

There was a rumor we threw down a big offer to Egor I believe before May 1. So early on
