The NLI locks a player to a school after they sign (think Joe Tukuafu)..
.. Yet schools could decide they don't want the player and just terminate the contract at any time.
The NLI is only in effect from when the player signs until the player enrolls in the school. Once the player enrolls he falls under the NCAA rules (aka, transfer portal)
For BYU.. this has a HUGE impact on missionaries who get locked into NLI's for 2 years 🙂
