He was a good DC, and built a good defense as an HC. He proved to be clueless
on the offensive side of the ball, unable to hire the assistants he needed to run that side of the ball, unable to address the issues that came up, and unable to control the locker room when things went south.
I think he will find great success again as a DC, but some guys just aren't cut out to be the head man.
