give them the physics prize. Why not chemistry or peace or physiology/medicine or the Nobel memorial prize in economics?

I know there are plenty of physics ideas and techniques kicking around in ML, but their contribution didn't advance physics any more than it advanced any other field, right?

Then again, I am open to the idea that maybe this is not so out of the norm. The transistor inventing guys used physics as a tool to build an important commercial device. Maybe this is the same.
