I think polls should be based on your resume, not where I think you will end up
or who I think would win in a 7-game series or how you did last year or your TV ratings or how your recruiting classes ranked or who your coach is. You play the games for a reason.

I don't mind using something like the 'eye test' in the context of evaluating your resume...but that eye test absolutely has to take into account the scoreboard at the end of the game...especially for games you lost to an opponent who is not currently ranked- looking at you Alabama, Tennessee, Notre Dame, Michigan, USC, Utah, and Washington.

It's OK to have some volatility in the polls from week to week over the course of the season...you have to constantly review the caliber of teams' wins and losses as the season progresses.

Remember how Georgia Tech's week 1 victory over #10 Florida State in Dublin looked amazing?! Florida State is now 1-5 and Georgia Tech has since lost to unranked Syracuse and Louisville.

Remember how we were surprised that ESPN FPI rated @SMU as BYU's toughest game on the schedule? How could that be? We had top-10 Utah and top-20 Oklahoma State, Kansas, and Arizona on the schedule! SMU is now ranked and looking like a real ACC contender. Oklahoma State and Kansas have yet to win a Big 12 game and Utah and Arizona have shown vulnerabilities.

With that said, BYU is the only team in the nation with TWO wins against currently ranked teams - one of those on the road. By resume, that's at least top 10.

Other notes
- Notre Dame lost AT HOME to an average MAC team. No way they should be anywhere near the top-10, even if they beat the team that just beat the #9 team....Missouri was VASTLY overrated because of pre-season positioning.
- You can't look passed Alabama's, Tennessee's, or Ole Miss's losses to average SEC teams. Alabama can distinguish itself from among this group because it has the fantastic win over Georgia...but you can't ignore the loss to Vandy...which by every measure is and will be a bad loss.
- Miami gets way too much credit for beating cupcakes and surviving a couple of average ACC opponents. Credit to them for winning their games, but they seem to get a nice bump for carrying the ACC torch.
