I have a 12 year old daughter that plays competitive basketball games and I get into them far more than I really should, same thing with my other kids, they could be playing competitive croquet and I would be totally riveted in watching it. I also love watching BYU basketball and football.

I think it is ok to want to do both and ultimately pick supporting your kids.
