I don't know what's going with ticket distribution but if it is partially tech nerds hoarding tickets, it seems stupid that the nerds wouldn't just load up local school districts(picked randomly so the students couldn't bank on them) with free tickets on say....Thursday every week once they knew nobody was going to use them as a sort of fan incubator. Give them food vouchers too. Free transport. Whatever it takes. That's their only hope. And I don't think it's a big hope either because the football playing/watching demographics just aren't there. But surely some kids that grew up getting free Stanford tickets would translate to paying customers at some point.
