Dodger fans in the bleachers are idiots. We sat there for game 1. I believe they number the sections (we were in 305) based on the collective IQ of the fans sitting there (excluding us, of course). Throw in alcohol and game frustration and all kinds of dumb things are going to be said. Game 1 it all led to 2 drunken idiots getting on the field and security destroying them.
Game 2 it led to a baseball being thrown in the direction of Profar - let's be clear it was no threat to actually hit him that I could tell.
All that said, very bad look for that fan. (And the other 4 of 54k who ultimately threw objects on the field).
But let's talk about the apparent intelligence and moreso immaturity of that trio of Padres - Tatis, Profar, and Machado. It was on full display. Profar and Machado whining incessantly about Tatis being hit by an 0-1 pitch leading off the 6th inning of a 3-1 playoff game, just further illustrates these aren't the brightest minds out there. (Of course the HBP was our best result of the night with Tatis, so maybe it's not a bad strategy...)
The Profar ball thing though was next level. He picked up the ball and ran like 100 feet over to the umpire as the inning was about to start and made a huge deal out of it. Shildt came out. Drama ensued. Had he simply thrown the ball over to the ball boy the inning would have carried on. The idiots out there would have continued to yell at him (honestly having sat there Game 1 there was that token guy doing the "hey Profar. You suck" routine. Maybe game 2 was worse. I dunno). But regardless, was it any surprise at all that another ball came on the field and the fans presumably were all over him that inning. (I would have been too, in a very sober PG rated way... okay maybe PG 13, as would any of you).
Point being he did nothing to deescalate it and everything to escalate the situation. So either he lacks maturity or he lacks intelligence. The limited evidence would suggest both.
The Dodgers have fiery guys too - Muncy, Graterol, and apparently Flaherty. I say fiery because I've seen them all fire back at the antics of Bumgarner and Machado. I actually can't recall any of them starting any drama. But it's possible I suppose.
But can you imagine if someone threw a ball in Mookie or Freddie's direction, them doing anything but tossing it aside? Ohtani would probably apologize to the fan.
I get it. We cheer for the laundry. I cringed a few times when we had Puig but I always had his back. Same with Bauer while it lasted. So I don't expect any Padres fans to say Machado or Profar are anything but perfect angels.
But when it comes to team stars, it's certainly easier to cheer for guys like Mookie, Freddie, Shohei, Teoscar, and Will than it is that trio of Padres.
(Note Jackson Merrill who is also killing us is very easy to cheer for, as is Arreaz).
No question I wouldn't make a big long boring post about it if we had won and were up 2-0. So this is born of some bitterness but I also believe there's a lot of truth to it.
Can't wait for tomorrow.
