Here’s my ideal scenario re the playoff.
Disclaimer: I didn’t get much sleep last night and am a bit groggy. So if any of this makes little sense or is just plain silly, chalk it up to sleep deprivation. But here’s what I want if I could draw it up, and yes, I realize that the likelihood of this playing out would require some serious chaos happening between now and the playoff. But you know what, we just had a bunch of chaos, so maybe we’ll get another couple of chaotic weeks of college football filled with huge upsets working in our favor. Here it goes:

BYU wins out and goes to the Big 12 championship, but loses to Kansas State (who also wins out). BYU gets an at-large selection to the playoffs and plays at LES in the first round. BYU wins the first-eound game, and then whatever happens from there is just pure gravy. That would be so much more magical than winning the Big 12 and getting a first round bye. Being in LES for a playoff game would be special.

I also wonder: if the above scenario plays out, could we face Kansas State for a third time in the second round. Anyone know? I assume it’s technically possible but highly unlikely due to the likely seedings (Kansas State likely being a 4 seed and BYU the lowest seed getting a home game). Anyway, a rubber match with KSU could be a lot of fun, and that’s a matchup we could obviously win. Then, with a win, we’d be in the semifinals. Dream big, Cougar fans!!
