The term “hat trick” used during SMU game
The announcer said a Louisville player almost had a hat trick, which I think implies 3 scores. Used more in Hockey and perhaps Soccer. I was wondering why someone called that a hat trick. Here’s what I learned.
It came from the sport Cricket. In 1858, H. H. Stevenson took three wickets in a row. The club presented him with a new hat as a reward, which was purchased from a collection passed around the crowd.
