To each his own. But for me:

Winning six games and going to a bowl is still a good year for Season 2 of Big 12. Winning a bowl game would be next step up.
If we win six in the first six or seven games, then a "better bowl" and then winning a better bowl is a great next step as a better season.
If we still keep winning even more regular season games, then making conf champ game is a great season.
If we win the CC game and go to a playoff, that's a fantastic year. more than that WOW!

But to sit here and say we gotta win 10 games or it's a disappointment seems really bizarre.
BYU isn't Alabama. There's nothing wrong with enjoying the season as it happens, and then hoping for more if it goes well.

Enjoying a journey rather than only the destination is a well documented healthy attitude.
