So suppose in my scenario that you inherited both of the houses, meaning you
don't pay for the systems; they're already there and paid for. The house with the battery is certainly better, but how much? It sounds like based on the lopsided buyback rate of roughly 2:1 (much worse in peak hours), the battery can make the electric bill for the house with the battery consistently lower than the one without.
