I'm not going to make this super political, but the parallels are uncanny.

In 2016, democrats laughed and made fun of people who might vote for Trump. As a result, people wouldn't admit for voting for Trump, so their polls were totally off. Democrats swallowed it all hook, line, and sinker.

In 2023, the utes made complete fun of the conference and big-timed the teams. The media lapped it up. And echoed it back to Utah, who swallowed it all hook, line, and sinker.

Neither ever considered they could be wrong or off. When things didn't turn out as their "research" had shown, the dumbfounded, slackjawed shock was identical.
