Sometimes things go wrong in a football game and we don't always agree with decisions.
I thought the decision to fake the punt deep in BYU territory with such a meager lead was a bad one. I thought the risk was greater than the possible reward.
I thought the double pass was great. It's been very effective. Unfortunately, the TE was bumped off his route and that led to a missed field goal and complaints of BYU being too conservative.
When it comes to play calling, I've learned that a large number of fans don't know what an RPO is and their feelings on run or pass depends more on success or failure than anything else.
RPO against Oklahoma following a long run leads to an INT in the end zone that's returned for a TD.
RPO against Kansas State following a long run leads to a 3 yard TD pass to Lassiter.
When it works out, it's a great play call.
When it doesn't, it's a bad play call.
Of course, fans don't know the play call in either instance.
