Or if we say the bookmakers don’t like BYU, we don’t care at all if it is the line makers or the bettors or whoever it is that sets the line where it is. Our observation is simply that whoever it is that controls the line is consistently as a group underestimating BYU.

Yet, every time someone says Vegas doesn’t like BYU we continue to get comments who is actually setting the line. Most of us have never gambled before and honestly don’t really care that we point out that detail. It is immaterial to our point.

As an aside, wouldn’t the book makers initial line have some influence on the bettors? Or do the professional bettors ignore the line before deciding how they think the game will end up then place their bets according to the lines afterward?
