Anyone making the assertion that K State out played BYU doesn't know a thing about football. And anyone that knows football would never try to make that assertion. Coach Klieman himself said, from the 2 minute mark remaining in the first half, K State did not play well in any phase of the game.
To believe that K State out played BYU you have to ignore 3 of the most basic and fundamental tenants of football.
1-Turnover Margin. BYU won the turnover battle 3-0
2-Field Position. BYU's average starting spot for each drive was the 44 yard line. K State's was their own 21 yard line. That means K. State began drives 23 yards in the hole compared to BYU.
3-Paying off drives with TD's. K State's O had 3 scoring drives, all three ended in FG attempts. BYU had 4 scoring drives, 3 of which ended with a TD and one with an FG.
If you really wanted to break down the numbers, K State only managed 367 yards of O, with a starting field position of their own 21. Your not going to win many games with kind of field position when you only put up 367 yards on Offense.
