I’m not a big X’s and O’s guy, but here are my thoughts.
Baylor has a good mobile QB. He also has some talented receivers. Hill and our defense had to account for their QB. This meant less guys to blitz and wreak havoc. I think our DB’s were also a bit off in Waco. So many passes where they were just barely out of position to make a play. They definitely came around to seal the victory in the waning moments.
Offense, like it or not, was night and day once Pay came out. I’m not knocking Pay’s replacement. Pay is not only a hard player to replace, but is a great leader. (No one should complain about 31 half time points) The 2nd half looked like last years offense. Little running game, passes being dropped and Retzlaff with a few turnovers. The team righted the ship just enough to win. 5-0 and our first Big Xll away victory should make up for the near 2nd half collapse.
