The ref that called a TD from the had a pretty good view of this play though and it's interesting that the ref called a TD seeing even though we see that no one seemed to have control over the ball. Looked like the ref that was near the goal post was probably less than 20 feet from the action.
I wonder what refs are taught to do in situations where they feel uncertain?
Looks to me like it was a blown call by the ref. Seems like where there's uncertainty ( On hail mary's there's usually a lot more uncertainty than not ) on whether a catch was made seems like the better call would be to say that no catch was made then the team that feels slighted can challenge the play to determine whether a catch was made or not.
Throughout the play it doesn't seem like anyone maintained firm control over the ball. IMO there was enough evidence to overturn the call.
Anyhow good to get some analytical practice out on a game that I don't care as much about so that when I'm analyzing BYU Football it's easier. 🙂
