I guess where I see it differently is that the school and player never actually
enter into any kind of binding agreement like you describe. In fact, the school quite intentionally does NOT put any pen to paper when it comes to NIL deals. The coaches can say whatever they want, but they take on no personal liability or responsibility when the rubber meets the road.

And the reason they don't is because they don't want to. So why should the players be any more responsible or committed to the agreement than the coaches or other school officials are?
